The Cory Wright Outfit is a quintet hailing from Oakland, California led by west coast composer and mulit-instrumentalist Cory Wright. Apples + Oranges is a truly modern album featuring eight tracks of advanced compositions featuring high level improvising. Wright’s compositions utilize the timbral possibilities of the instrumentation of saxophones, trombone, flute, clarinet, bass and drums; the harmonic material is used both as a primary focal point and as a way to support soloists; the creative forms place the players in a variety of contexts for improvisations. With Cory Wright, tenor saxophone and Bb clarinet; Evan Francis, alto saxophone & flute; Rob Ewing, trombone; Lisa Mezzacappa, bass and Jordan Glenn, drums.
